Exhibit Title – In Celebration of Earth Day

Biography

I’ve always had a strong interest in photography. A few years ago, after working for nearly 40 years in marketing and advertising, I retired from my career and moved to South Florida. It feels as if I’ve been reborn, being able to explore my creative side through photography and creative writing.

For me, photography is a journey of self-discovery. I often wonder why I am attracted to certain images that often seem so diverse from one another: from the well-defined to the abstract, the colorful to black and white, and from places to people. Blue is a constant companion. Form and structure appeal to my rational side. And yet, I am captivated by abstract images, triggering thoughts and emotions deep inside. While I love to revel in color, shadows, shapes, and patterns revealed by black and white photos fascinate me.

I have been fortunate to have my work featured in international juried online competitions (as the International Color Awards and the Black and White Spider Awards) as well as in-person exhibits with the Broward Arts Guild and Art’s United Florida.

Statement

In honor of Earth Day, I’m extremely excited to share this collection of photos emphasizing the natural beauty of our wonderous earth.  These images speak to the need to respect and protect both the geodiversity and biodiversity of our planet—it’s breathtaking landscapes, rolling hills, pristine shores, sunsets as well as it’s forests, trees, plants, and flowers.

Three sweeping landscapes images remind us of the grandeur of our environment and it’s varying terrains. Two images were taken in Florida–one in the Everglades National Park and the other on Sanibel Island. These photos display the natural beauty here in Florida. The third is from my second home in Prince Edward Island, Canada and is reminiscent of the simplicity of rural farming communities across North America.

The four images of trees and plants demonstrate nature at its absolute best. When photographing flowers and plants, I’m continually awestruck by the intricate design and delicate textures they reveal.

My hope in sharing these images is that people not only become more aware of the beauty that exists in unexpected, everyday places (a tulip in your front yard or a beach you visit), but also consider protecting these places for generations to come.
